Momocon Artist Alley - Huge thanks!

Journal Entry: Mon May 26, 2014, 8:21 AM

Momocon has been a consistently good convention -- happy people, increasing attendance, and nice staff.
I'm definitely a bit cramped and tired after an intense four days but was glad to see new artists and some old familiar faces.

First, I'd like to thank all of you who bought prints from me. I was tickled that many people said "Hey, I saw your stuff on Tumblr." For once, hashtagging actually WORKED for advertising my stuff at the con.

I also reconnected with a lot of customers from years past.  Very happy about that as I will be off from AWA this fall and just enjoying the convention like the rest of them.   I appreciate that many of them made a point to buy something as part of their Momocon experience. Also, several stopped by more than once to talk. I love that they took the time to see how I was doing and also tell me about their convention experience. (I also made a list of what they said I had to watch as they know I only draw what I watch! :3 )

Business stuff
For the curious, I did increase my profits from last year significantly by 50%. That is a pretty staggering amount considering that every year we've had different locations. I have to say the signage and location helped tremendously.  I was able to almost nearly close out several prints (to my relief) although I still have some ways to go.

Also, I did sell books, much to my surprise.  They only comprised about 10% of overall sales so I have to warn folks that from a product standpoint, I did not break even on those items yet.  Authors shouldn't expect to go to a con just for one book and make back their table cost with no other product. That said -- I had questions as well from attendees about the book itself, the process, and my motivations as a creator.

I really hope some of them will come back and chat with me further or become regular visitors to the full serial site at

Rest of 2014
In any case, I will be like the rest of you this year and just enjoying what cons I'm able to go to as a visitor.  If you think you'll be at AWA and want to grab coffee or a meal, ping me as we get closer!

I'm going to try to go to some oddball conventions the rest of the year, possible in different parts of the country. Tell me of any good ones you know where there's a healthy artist alley and booksellers. I really want to hear about them!

I've just got to hunker down and finish Volume 2 of the serial and also work on refreshing merchandise for Volume 1. Trying to work out also what I'll do after Volume 2 is wrapped up.   Thinking about a prequel Cupid/Psyche (Beauty and the Beast) illustrated work instead of Sleeping Beauty OR working on a children's webcomic for a while.  I'm trying very hard to expand my platform but to do that I need to find new ways of finding readers.

Other projects? Are you nuts
Possibly. I'll wait until I've actually really started contributing but there's something small in the works that I want to help out with -- more of a mentoring role in the creative realm, but will keep mum for now :3

Hello, it's Bonnie! I met you at Momocon, I was the girl you requested a half body commission of your original character with the long hair in a ponytail. ^^ Since I got your business card I decided to follow you on DA! -Wave!-
